1. Direct mechanical (or mechanical-thermal) receptors probably associated with sharp pain; chemically mediated pain (polymodal) receptors probably associated with dull pain

2. When stimulated, pain endings can release the neurotransmitter/vasodilator Substance P (SP)  (!)
